BRUCE COCKBURN WITH A TWIST
-- Dialogue With the Guy In Front Of Me (or "Why Don't We Accelerate?") --

Rewrite of "Dialogue With The Devil (or "Why Don't We Celebrate?")," by Logan Shaw

sitting in my car on the onramp
staring at the traffic flow
will he use up all his fuel
like a thousand other fools
while he sits there, waiting for an opening?

riding in my car behind him
being passed by fast Corvettes
he could really roll down that old freeway
give himself some merging leeway
but he doesn't want to make that kind of bet

and he says, "but don't you know
how hard it is
to hit the gas and mean it,
and mean it?"

now I'm really starting to tail him
trying to make him finally go
will he lose his merging spot
the only he's got
will he squander it and wait for another one?

and I cry, "why don't we accelerate?
why don't we accelerate?
you sure do drive real bad
why don't you speed up a tad?"

and he's aware
how hard it is
to hit the gas and mean it,
and mean it

and I scream, "why don't we accelerate?
why don't we accelerate?
I really hate to goad,
but c'mon let's get on the road!"

sitting in my car behind him
suddenly his car starts to surge
cloud of smoke comes out the tailpipe
as he pulls across the white stripe
and he's finally merged -- it was no problem

so why don't we accelerate?
why don't we accelerate?
why don't we accelerate?
