SEARCH TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR RESULTS
Search Engine tips help you get better results. Search phrases work to promote, demote, include and exclude pages with the keywords you are looking in the results. Play with these:
Check spelling
Avoid common words
Example:
The phrase Bruce Cockburn is on every page of this site! It won't help you at all!
Use multiple words
Example:
video River of Sand (if you're trying to track down a page with the contact info to buy the video)
Be specific
Example:
If you are searching for a review of Cockburn's last album , don't type Breakfast In New Orleans, type Breakfast In New Orleans review
Use similar words
Example:
environment polution chemical factory acid rain (if you're trying to find pages quoting BC on acid rain and other chemical pollutants)
Use appropriate capitalisation
Example:
Coming Rains (demotes pages with "coming soon"; promotes pages with mentions of the song title up the listings)
Use quotation marks
Example:
"call it democracy" (returns pages with that specific phrase higher up the listings)
Use plus (+) or minus (-)
Examples:
+"tuning his guitar" (requires that phrase)
+democracy -"Call It Democracy" (looks for mentions of "democracy", but not on pages where the song Call It Democracy is mentioned.
Use field searches
Examples:
title:news (looks for title tags containing the word "news")
body:river of sand (looks in only the page text for the phrase "River of Sand")
Use wildcards
Examples:
Mozam* (if you forget how to spell "Mozambique"!)
protest* (prioritises "protest", "protested", "protesting", etc)
