August 1999 - "This instrumental is kind of a free for all, especially on the drum and percussion end of it. Its basically an improvised jazz piece with a melody at the beginning and end. If we had more players, we could have stretched it out to a whole side of an album, that is if we still had sides. Deep Lake, another instrumental, was probably a first take as well. Everything on ...Timbuktu was done in a few takes. Its not a deliberate policy, but the energy was there in the early going." - from "Bruce Cockburn, Breakfast in New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu", Ryko press release, undated, circa August 1999.
