Saw Bruce Cockburn in concert last night here in Sandy
Eggo. Haven't seen
him since he was here last, 6 some years ago. Sure have
missed the experience.
Much more electric concert than I've ever seen him do. Very
cool (who says
you get mellower as you get older?!). He played for over 2.5
hours, till
midnight. 1st encore: (very acoustic) 'pacing the cage,'
then 'dialogue
with the devil' (which he said helped him understand why he
wrote
'pacing'). 2nd encore: i found my thrill on blueberry hill.
what a GREAT
rendition.
Incredible young bassist and drummer. Noth shined and way
more than stayed
up with bruce's intense, flowing music. The bassist pulled
out a very cool
electric stand-up bass for a coupla songs.
Only one pre-1980 song ('dialogue with the devil'). I'm a
HUGE fan of the
first decade, so I was a bit disappointed. But I still
walked away filled,
and in awe of his graceful lyricism and musicianship.
Now the interesting observations: the crowd (about 400-500,
yes gulotta?)
was mostly aged hippies (reformed and not--in appearance).
Lots of droopy
body parts, mine included. A bunch started leaving about
10:15 (gotta get
the babysitter home, I imagine).
